Educational Thoughts

At Manukau Christian School, our goal is to develop courageous disciples who apply Christ’s kingship to every area of life. We don’t teach a private faith or treat parts of life as neutral. Instead, we want our graduates to see Christ’s lordship in all spheres and to live with courage in a world that often pushes back hard.

With this in mind, we gladly accepted an invitation from Bob McCoskrie and Family First to bring our Year 13 students to the Forum on the Family. The conference gave them a clear picture that the conservative Christian worldview we teach at MCS is not outdated or irrelevant. Rather, it is biblical, good, and part of a growing movement of people who long to see families strengthened and New Zealand shaped by Christian truth.

One highlight was an interview with Israel Folau and his wife Maria, reflecting on the controversy surrounding Israel’s 2019 social media post and the courage it took to stand firm despite immense pressure. Having come through this difficult season, Folau shared that he would not change what he said, standing by his convictions. His example was powerful: sometimes courage means being misunderstood, maligned, abandoned by friends, and seen as “the bad guy” — yet this is the kind of courage required to stand for biblical truth.

Another deeply moving session came from two young women who had once embraced the transgender movement, undergone medical transition, and then, by God’s grace, realised that He had made them women. Their testimonies of detransition highlighted both the pain of deception and the hope of restoration. We pray that stories like these may help bring an end to gender deception and the consequent destruction and hurt this harmful ideology causes.

Our Year 13 students left the Forum encouraged that the truths they learn at school are not only right and good but also shared by many others across the nation who are working to see Christ’s lordship honoured in family and society.
